Here there Be Dragons
May saw us finally making use of our aquarium membership again! It’s great being able to go back over and over so that we can take some time in each section and not feel like we need to rush through everything to get back on the road to beat the awful traffic out to the Valley.
We spent the most time in the new Dragons exhibit which features rescued reptiles from around the world. The staff at the exhibit is so excited and informative, I highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.
I brought my plein air watercolour board and spent some time painting. It was really neat, instead of just looking for a minute at most, snapping a picture and moving on… painting the animal had me studying it and thinking about it for about an hour. I spent some time with this little guy, and then went back to paint some jellyfish that we saw last time when I was just scoping out the place and didn’t bring my paints.
EBike Adventures
Been using my ST50 Envo ebike a lot more these days. I took it to a dentist appointment last month (the first time I took it somewhere and locked it up to leave there while I went inside!) and a small trip to pick up some eggs when I ran out while making lasagna. But Monday saw me taking it to do the full weekly shop! I opted for the pickup option, vs going in and doing the shop myself, and just loaded everything into the panniers and cargo basket on the back.
We do actually have a bike trailer, but alas the bolt for the wheel is a little too large for the attachment. I think I can do a fairly quick mod to the attachment so that it will fit, it’s only about a mm off. But wasn’t able to get to it in time this week.
Crafting
My incredible hubby and son spent some time earlier this month rearranging O’s bedroom (which was my craft room before he moved back home from Korea) into a more dual-purpose space. I now have permanent setups for my sewing machines and ironing board. Which means I can get back to sewing all the things!
Embracing Pants
Becoming A Person Who Bikes Places means that I have a new desire for a pair of pants that I can wear places. Pants that aren’t just my comfy lounge pants which are not meant to leave the house. I ordered some lovely denim and corduroy and can’t wait to make them!
Learning Corset Making
Using this pattern and a class from Royal Black I am sewing my son an underbust corset. We’re at the mockup stage!

Overnight Sourdough Waffles
I finally, finally got a waffle maker that lets all three of us sit down and have waffles at the same time.
As waffles are the preferred breakfast food for the guys, I’ve been making these waffles on repeat for the last month. I make a big batch every few days and stash them in the freezer. I’ve also been making homemade caramel sauce which as been an adventure to say the least.
